As we saw the consequences right up to the end of the old age that can never be repaired and broken. Bad habits are hard to break. We can do that by dissecting the components into smaller parts and try that out. For example smoking. How do we break this bad habit? How do we break it into components of bad habits?
I thought about that and I figured out a few things. We can go through the time line of the day and we can see the pattern of our smoking. I woke up early in the morning and smoke inside the toilet while I was passing motion. Then I go to work and normally I reach the office quite early. I smoke in the office and wait for my friends to come in and go for breakfast. After the breakfast, I smoke and then start working. Sometimes, I have to go to the toilet again to pass motion and I smoke again.
While I am in the office I also smoke in my room. I also smoke during the meetings because it is allowed in the office to do so and it seemed to be the culture of the people within the office and also in the group of companies. Anyway, during and after lunch I probably smoked a couple of more times and continue to work in the office. Where we do smoke until we go home. Then there will be a few more cigarettes and I am done for the day.
I started to stop smoking with not having any in the office. The assistant was happy because she does not have to go into my smelly office. I also stopped smoking during the meetings and simply restrained myself when other people smoked during the meeting.
I delayed smoking after I have any meal. That was the trick and try to break the habit of getting the cigarettes straight into your mouth after finishing the food. I tried to taste the food and then the tough part would be the time when we have to pass motion. That was the last habit that I broke and then I did not smoke anymore.
I remember the last time I smoke. Actually I did not smoke. I was not buying any cigarette anymore at that time and I only buy 1 or 2 sticks from the shop if I wanted to. So I took my staff cigarette and went to the stairs to smoke. I reached the stairs and decided to turn back into the office. I return the cigarette and never take a single cigarette until today. That was more in 2006!
I have spoke to a few people about that but I guess we do need a reason to stop. I stopped simply for financial reason. The money that I spent for the cigarettes at that time can pay for my kids nursery and also the school transportation. I also got my third child in 2005 and the financial obligations increased dramatically. That was the main reason.
I guess some people did not have that kind of thinking and failed to find the reason to stop. I have seen people stated that they wanted to stop because they are in the business of selling healthy products. It did not last.
I have seen people trying to stop and kept talking about the hardship and what not for not getting the taste of the cigarette. People said things like getting tense because they have not been smoking for a few days and so on and so forth. I think that was not the best way to go about doing that.
I did not say much and I did not say things to people that I was quitting. Some noticed but many did not. Even my wife did not say anything or noticed much and I just simply stopped. No need to tell the whole world about that in the social media and what not. I take it as something not coll when people try to stop smoking and announce in the social media and hoping that people will pray for their success and what not. At then end of the day, the bug stop with you and you have to do it. Regardless of prayers for people from all over the world.
There are other bad habits that we can breakdown and we can do that for sure. This is something that I have to do and that I will say nothing much about it any more.
